5-Aminolevulinic acid synthesis in Escherichia coli.
A hemA mutant of Escherichia coli containing a multicopy plasmid which complemented the mutation excreted 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) into the medium. [1-14C]glutamate was substantially incorporated into ALA by this strain, whereas [2-14C]glycine was not. Periodate degradation of labeled ALA showed that C-5 of ALA was derived from C-1 of glutamate. The synthesis of ALA by two sonicate fractions...
متن کاملPorphyrin Synthesis from 5-Aminolevulinic Acid in Patients with Glioma
The molecule 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) is a substrate for a heme synthesized in cells us‐ ing succinyl CoA and glycine. Initially, 5-ALA is converted to porphobilinogen (PBG), and the metabolism progresses by the action of PBG deaminase, and its product is incorporated into the mitochondria via uroporphyrinogen and coproporphyrinogen by an enzymatic reaction and transformed into protoporphy...
متن کامل5-Aminolevulinic acid synthesis in epimastigotes of Trypanosoma cruzi.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Trypanosoma cruzi is the causative agent of Chagas disease or American trypanosomiasis. The parasite manifests a nutritional requirement for heme compounds because of its biosynthesis deficiency. The aim of this study has been to investigate the presence of metabolites and enzymes of porphyrin pathway, as well as ALA formation in epimastigotes of T. cruzi, Tulahuén strain, T...
متن کاملSynthesis of renewable diesel with hydroxyacetone and 2-methyl-furan.
Diesel or jet fuel range branched alkanes were synthesized for the first time by the combination of hydroxyalkylation-alkylation (HAA) of 2-methylfuran with hydroxyacetone and subsequent hydrodeoxygenation. Due to the electron-withdrawing effect of the hydroxyl group, the hydroxyacetone route exhibited evident advantages (higher HAA reactivity and diesel yield) over the previous acetone route.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) using topical 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA), a water-soluble precursor of the potent endogenous photosensitiser, protoporphyrin IX (PpIX), is a treatment and diagnostic tool for premalignant and malignant skin cancers. However, to improve drug delivery to deeper skin lesions, more lipophilic ALA esters have been investigated. Owing to the necessity in drug delivery rese...
